After getting knowledge text scenario of Maithili we had conducted ten assessment workshops at Darbhanga and Patna. We had eight assessment workshops at Darbhanga (
Botany, Zoology, Political Science, History, Philosophy, Sociology, Physics and Chemistry) and two workshops (
Economics and Linguistics) at Patna. As we know National Translation Mission is going to provide books in regional languages to bridge the knowledge gap to do so we need a road map therefore we conducted these workshops.
In all these workshops we discussed about the language of translated version, its continuity of expression and appropriateness of terminologies used. It was concluded that the language of the translation should be comprehensible to general people therefore standard colloquial language has to be used and if certain terminologies or words is not assessable to the mass speakers of that language because of its in usability /unavailability in colloquial language it should be explained by putting English words in the brackets by the side of that word or it may be explained in the footnote. Concept based translation should be done as word to word translation cannot be done due to so many difficulties in that. Without changing the original idea in simplified language one should translate the text. Maithili is not a medium of instruction in educational institutions therefore we lack terminologies in each and every domain that should be created for further work.
