National Translation Mission - Who is involved
Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL) is the nodal agency and the chief facilitator for National Translation Mission (NTM). The Mission operates from CIIL.

Project Advisory Committee is constituted of 25 experts. Members of the PAC are scholars and experts teaching and practicing translation, authors, littérateurs, presidents of literary academies, vice-chancellors of universities, members from booksellers and publishers guild, representatives from industrial houses doing research and development work in the area of translation.

For the translation activities CIIL coordinates and cooperates with a variety of organisations, to prevent duplication, create synergies and allow for integrated yet flexible development of translation activity. In the initial period, CIIL has collaborated with the National Book Trust and the Sahitya Akademi to initiate the ‘Anukriti’ project. Later, for the ‘Katha Bharathi’ initiative, CIIL has been working together with Sahitya Akademi.

The other organisations which had been working with CIIL in promotion of Indian Languages and Translation activities include the following: the UGC, the university departments offering teaching and research programmes in Translation, Granth Academies, Translation Kendras, other state-level institutions, public library networks, and the NGOs working on Indian languages, such as Bhasha, Pratham, Katha, etc.)

It also engages publishers, newspapers and other media, corporate houses and book sellers. In particular, CIIL has dealt with Kriya, Microsoft, Google, Motorola, Pearson Education, M.R.A.R. Education Society and McMillan, etc.

In addition, NTM interacts with and incorporates the requirements of teachers, students, parents, mature learners and other citizens. The point is to engage in strategic interventions building on and developing synergies with existing public institutions and private agents.
